Dorothy Fagan in her studio

“I feel exhilaration and peace all at once when I paint. This is what I seek to capture in every painting ~ that deeply exhilarating connection we all have with Earth and the peace of being one with Source.”

Artist Dorothy Fagan paints with her heart, not just her hand. She began painting when she was five years old, painting on the glassed-in porch of her family’s home in the woods. Today she paints en plein air, bringing the natural light and color of the raw landscape back into her glass-walled studio in the woods.

Dorothy found guidance in developing her own style in the work of Impressionist masters; Monet, Degas, Heade, Clark and Innes during a ten-year painting mentorship with Robert B. Mayo. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and Painting from East Carolina University.

Fagan’s work has been featured on PBS and awarded honors by the Academic Artists Association, Virginia Contemporary Museum of Art and Kansas Pastel Society. Her work is collected by many including; Longwood Art Museum, City University of New York, Emory University, International Paper, AAA, Coldwell Banker, First National Exchange Bank,  and General Electric.

Her work has been selected for national juried exhibitions at The Pastel Society of America, G. V. W. M Smith Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Pastel Society of Canada, the Virginia Contemporary Museum of Art, the Copley Society, the Hermitage Museum, NJ Institute of Technology, American Artists Professional League, Salmagundi Club, Knickerbocker Artists, W. C. Rawls Museum and the National Arts Club.
